Gender-neutral baby names, by the numbers
55 names were given to at least 500 US babies in 2025 with each sex making up at least a quarter of them. That is our definition of gender-neutral here: a measured split in Social Security data, not a judgement about how a name sounds.
The most given was Riley, with 6,107 babies (73% girls). The most even splits were Dakota (49% girls), Blake (49% girls), Tatum (49% girls) and Robin (51% girls).
Of the 55 names, 22 had more girls than boys in 2025 and 33 had more boys. Together they were given to 91,904 babies that year, 49% of them girls, or 2.8% of all babies in SSA’s 2025 list. 50 of them rank in the top 1,000 for girls and for boys at the same time.
